Deputy Interior Minister Chada Thaised spearheaded a surprise raid on an illicit pub in Pattaya, exposing a drug scandal.

The clandestine operation targeted a notorious establishment in Soi Kor Pai Pattaya, Banglamung district, following a barrage of complaints from neighbours about deafening noise, all-night parties, and rampant drug use among its youthful patrons.

Upon the officials’ arrival, the scene inside the pub was chaotic, with approximately 300 young adults and teenagers revelling in the illegal after-hours festivities. The pub’s manager was promptly ordered to switch on the lights and halt all entertainment activities, bringing the party to an abrupt end.

In a meticulously coordinated effort, officials separated the customers by gender to check ID cards and collect urine samples. The results were startling: 103 males and 116 females tested positive for drugs.

Additionally, a sweep of the premises uncovered numerous plastic bags filled with narcotics, strewn across the floor and discarded in bins. The raid also led to the discovery of two handguns in a customer’s car, with the owner claiming they were for self-defence.

Post-raid, the officials called upon Pattaya police superintendent Police Colonel Nawin Thirawit to dispatch officers to the scene. Those who tested positive for drug use were promptly detained, ensuring they faced the full brunt of the law, reported Thai PBS World.

The pub owner now faces serious charges, including operating without a permit and selling liquor beyond legally permitted hours.

In related news, Pattaya police cracked down on the city’s entertainment hotspots in an operation named Nightwatch, arriving at Area 39 on Pattaya Third Road at 1.30am on February 3. Amidst the sea of IDs, a 19 year old girl emerged, attempting to slyly slip past with a counterfeit identity. The venue management pointed fingers at the imposter, claiming she hoodwinked her way in. Lead investigator Police Major Colonel Aphinant Boonyarat wasted no time summoning the venue manager for questioning.
